Hip Hop Dance Choreography

Hip hop choreography is the result of a choreographer putting together different moves and ideas together in a way that they think that is pleasing to the eye and an audience would enjoy.

It is usually created by more experienced dancers that have learnt their craft and now have their own ideas about routines and choreography that they would now like to showcase. Anyone can get involved in choreography in their own time regardless of experience though.

The idea for a piece of choreogarphy or a routine can come from anywhere. However it is common for it to come just from a dancer busting out a few dance moves to a song and finding out that they have a lot of ideas to that particular song.

They can then continue along this direction and start putting these ideas together until they have a routine. This process can happen very quickly if the choreographer is very inspired in the moment, other choreographers prefer to take their time and create choreography more carefully and spend more time.

The length of time of course is not important as it is more than possible for inspiration to hit and to create something very quickly in 5 minutes.

It is primarily the job of hip hop choreographers and also dance teachers to create hip hop choreography. The latter however may not necessarily call the routines that they teach for a dance class choreography unless they choose to.

Often those whose job it is to choreograph hip hop routines will be given a piece of music or a song that they will be asked to choreograph a routine for.

It is probably not a surprise that the first thing that they will do is to listen to the song! Some choreographers may like to really listen to a song many times so that they can become really familiar with it and know every element of it inside out.

Other choreographers may only want to listen to it once or a few times before getting to work and letting the ideas come to them as they work.

Different choreographers have different approaches just as they will have different ideas and different routines. If you select a song and look for different dance routines based around the same song you will see that they all look different except in the rare instances when one choreographer is obviously copying another one's work.
