Hip Hop Dance Choreography (Continued...)
Some choreographers also like to work together and this is not uncommon, for example the choreography duo of Tabitha and Napoleon.
Usually when this is the case the choreographers will have very similar interests and may even find that their ideas together are better than their ideas individually as they can each bring something different to the table.
Other choreographers prefer to work on their own. If you were to bring them together with another choreographer it would have a negative impact.
Some choreographers have such unique ideas or put together routines in a certain way that they like to stick by that makes it very difficult for them to collaborate with other choreographers.
Those that are in charge of dance shows and companies need to be very careful of this and if they do bring choreographers together they need to be sure that they can work well together and have enough in common. It is usually best left to the choreographers whether they want to work with another person or on their own.
it is not uncommon to have different choreographers working on the same overall bigger project though. This can be a positive thing by bringing variety and diversity to the show with each choreographer contributing some routines or performances to the show.
This can be seen at many dance shows such as the Choreographer's Carnival for example where they will bring different acts, performers, dancers and groups together for the night. All the acts take care of their own choreography rather than the whole show being choreographed by one or two persons.
Shows such as this are also great because they bring different people to the show and the friends and families of the different acts come to support them at the show.
Of course the work of different choreographers working independently can be seen most obviously in dance competitions where different crews will be pitted against each other. Each crew will have their own choreographer(s) with the one deemed to have the best dancers and routines declared the champion.
Hip hop dance crews usually come together because the individual dancers have similar ideas or a common objective. They will usually have similar interests and be skilled in a particular style of hip hop choreography that they specialize in.
They can come together naturally through contacts and acquaintances or through the arrangement of dance auditions to see which dancers can fit the aim of the choreographer most precisely.
The dancers themselves need to buy into what the choreographer is looking to achieve with their choreography.
A dance crew's line-up of dancers can change over time but those who enjoy themselves most will usually be those that stick around the longest. Usually they enjoy themselves because they like the choreography they learn and the dancers that they work with in the group.
